History

The Krogstad farm is a fourth generation farm. The present farmsite was purchased in 1892 by Evan Krogstad. It was a typical diversified farm operation. Richard started the Polled Hereford herd along with son Art with a purchase of 12 heifers from Nelson Herefords of Tracy, MN in 1943.

The herd was then known as Richard Krogstad and sons. Art took over the Herefords with Cliff going into dairy and older son Earl being killed at Normandy. Art and Pearl raised Polled Herefords and six kids on the farm until Les took over after Art's death in 2000. Darin took his cows to his place by Red Wing in 2011, keeping them as an extension of the same herd. The herd has grown to the present size of about 130 cows, staying predominantly a closed herd.

Select females have been purchased from time to time to fill a specific need. Herd bulls have come from various herds throughout the Dakotas and Minnesota. A.I. breeding has been an integral part of the program since the 70's. We went thru the "Bull of the Month" phase like most breeders, but now A.I. sires are selected more on balanced, proven, predictable performance.
