COWHERD ESTABLISHED IN 1943
We run a third generation herd of about 120 cows, all polled and all registered. Calving season is early February through April. Steer calves are marketed in January through Bagley Livestock Exchange on their special Hereford influence feeder sale. Open heifers, bred heifers and the very top cut of bulls are sold on the farm by private treaty. We also consign to the Go-pher the Purple select sale at Hutchinson in December and the Indianhead sale in River Falls.
Cows are culled hard for udder quality, fertility, feet, function and performance. Herd bulls and A.I. sires are selected for low birth, growth, maternal traits and eye pigment.Complete performance records including birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, hip height, scrotal circumference and ultrasound carcass data are collected on the calves.
You won't find much for winner's circle pictures here. No donor pens or ET calves. No professionally photoshopped pictures or fancy catalogs. Our showring is the pasture where "green ribbons" mean
more than blue ones. Each cow is expected to raise her own calf and do it without being pampered.
Visitors are always welcome to look over the cattle.
